Jan Kaminski Chairman
The principal of Colonnade Development, Jan Kaminski has been a respected leader in the construction business since 1956, earning invaluable experience in contracting and developing real estate in the National Capital Region. His 35 years as President and founder of Modern Mechanical, the region's largest mechanical contractor, led him to building construction and property development.
Jan has always committed resources to research, development and equipment modernization in order to stay ahead of the competition. Among other accomplishments, he developed a pre-manufactured plumbing system, designed and manufactured couplings, and controlled engineering and design in an effort to increase control, efficiency and profitability. The result was that Modern Mechanical developed mechanical systems for some of the largest buildings in the National Capital Region.
For the past ten years, Jan has led Colonnade Development's research and development of site cast construction technology, and pioneered the company's efforts to market its site cast products and services internationally. Known and respected for maintaining quality and efficiency, Jan continues to provide innovative solutions to development and construction challenges, from pre-fabricated plumbing systems for use in large apartment complexes to the patented forming technology currently used in Colonnade Development's site cast construction system.
Steven Kaminski C.A. President
A graduate of the University of Waterloo Honours Math program, Steve Kaminski subsequently attained his Chartered Accountancy designation while articling with Thorne Riddell (currently KPMG) in Ottawa. Subsequent to public practice, Steve focused on the areas of accounting systems and finance.
In his role as President of Colonnade Development, Steve is responsible for establishing corporate direction, running daily operations, and financing all existing and newly developed real estate. Steve has managed Colonnade Development's financial and contractual aspects for the past twenty years. Through various partnerships, joint ventures and corporations, he has raised over $400 million dollars from pension funds, life insurance companies, banks, trusts and individuals. In 2000 Colonnade Development received the Gold Medal as "Company of the Year" and in 1997, Steve received the bronze medal as "Young Entrepreneur of the Year" from the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Trade.
Steve is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Foundation of the Ottawa Hospital - the largest medical research foundation in the National Capital Region, responsible for managing approximately $50 million in endowment funds and funding over $20 million in medical research and equipment for patient care annually.
Cal Kirkpatrick Hon. B.A. V.P. Development
Cal Kirkpatrick is a graduate of Carleton University with an Honours in Urban Geography. In a career that began in 1987 with Colonnade Development, he has developed a varied background in the design, marketing, leasing, construction and management of commercial buildings and office parks. His principal role with Colonnade Development is overseeing the entire development process, and creating a financial and development model that satisfies the objectives of the investor-partner and the prevailing market conditions. This includes coordinating the client's interest with the municipal approval process, the land acquisition, the design team, the leasing program and the construction management team, and ensuring that they work to parallel objectives within the investor-client model.
Cal has acted as the lead coordinator in many of Colonnade Development's largest development projects, most notably the ongoing Kanata North Technology Park and the recently announced Queensway West Technology Park. As Vice President of Development, he has been involved in the development of over 2.5 million square feet of commercial real estate representing more than $300 million dollars in value. Cal is also involved in all other aspects of Colonnade Development as a valued member of the senior management team.
Mark White B.A. V.P. Leasing
A graduate of Carleton University, Mark White has been involved in numerous aspects of commercial and residential real estate since 1984, and has been an integral part of the Colonnade Development team since 1990.
As Vice President, Leasing, Mark is responsible for the marketing and leasing of all Colonnade Development buildings, the entire third party property management portfolio and all of the company's new development projects. Mark has also been closely involved in numerous Build-to-Suit and other development projects totalling more than 2.5 million square feet. Mark is also responsible for working with our owners/ clients to ensure that our leasing program meets the objectives of their asset management strategies.
In addition to his membership in such business related organizations as The Ottawa Board Of Trade, and the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation Mark was also a founding member of the Ottawa/Hawthorne Business Park Association.
Greg Johnston B.Admin. Hon. B.Comm. V.P. Property Management
Greg Johnston is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, with both Bachelor of Business Administration and Honours Bachelor of Commerce degrees; majoring in Human Resource Management and minoring in Marketing. Greg entered the industry in 1987 and has experience in virtually every sector of commercial real estate, including retail, office, and industrial. He has been involved in the management of some of North America's most successful regional shopping centres, including the Toronto Eaton Centre, and Ottawa's Rideau Centre. As the Vice President of Property Management, Greg is responsible for the overall management and reporting requirements for Colonnade Development's entire property management portfolio.
Richard Getz Hon. B.Journalism V.P. Retail
Richard Getz joined Colonnade Development in January of 2004 as Vice President Retail. He brings to the Company years of experience in Retail Leasing, Management, Development and Sales. Richard started his career with Campeau Corporation in its Shopping Centre Division in 1981 and became part of the Rideau Centre Management Group in 1984 where he stayed until 1987. He joined Ottawa’s Regional Group in 1987 specializing in Retail Brokerage and joined the national Retail Group at Royal LePage in 1996 where he was an industry leader prior to joining Colonnade Development in 2004.
His connections with National Developers and Retailers alike are second to none in this marketplace and it is Colonnade’s intent to grow a Retail division under his guidance. This will include internal and third party development as well as property management and leasing.
Richard is a native to the Ottawa region and graduated from Carleton University in 1977 with an Honours Bachelor of Journalism degree. He is an active member of the community having served on the Boards or in fundraising efforts for numerous professional and charitable organizations and associations.
Shawn Hickey C.C.S., G.S.C. V.P. Construction
In his role as Vice President, Construction, Shawn Hickey is responsible for the construction requirements of Colonnade Development and the daily operations and staffing for Colonnade Development’s affiliate, SiteCast Construction. Shawn graduated from Algonquin College as a Certified Architectural Technician, and is a Certified Gold Seal Superintendent through the Canadian Construction Association, as well as a Certified Construction Superintendent through the Ontario General Contractors Association. He is the past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association. He frequently lectures on Tilt-Up Construction throughout the United States and Canada and is an active member of the ACI 650 and 551 committees.
Mr. Hickey has been with Colonnade Development since 1994.

Cathy Steele C.G.A. Controller, HR Manager
Cathy Steele has been a Certified General Accountant in the property development, property management, and construction industries since 1987.
In her present role as Controller for Colonnade Development, Cathy uses her attention to detail and demand for perfection to oversee the company's accounting department, internal and external cash flow management, and financing reporting.
